Can i get into Boston U?
I was wondering if i had a chance in hell of getting admitted into Boston U. I have a 3.1 GPA out of a 4.0 scale. 20 ACT’s (i’m taking them again this saturday). i am a senior just fyi. I’ve taken 7 AP courses and 7 honor courses throughout my high school career. Extra-curriculars include:
• Member of: Model U.N., Key Club, Debate, Science Olympiad, in the middle of starting my own nonprofit organization
• My NPO has a goal of building schools in third world countries and have just recently been approved to start working.
• Awards/ Positions: Vice President of Key Club (current), head of the Public Relation committee for Key Club, 50+ hours of random community service done, won outstanding delegation award at William and Mary Conference. I was selected to go to UPenn conference, where I also received a verbal recognition.
• Participated in the following for Key Club- UNICEF, Light the Night, Lake Accotink Clean up, Football field painting, Homeless Shelter Drive, Battered Women and Children Drive, Sponsoring a family for Thanksgiving, Blood Drive, Public Relation Committee. The meetings took place every other week and took about 3 hours, which includes separate meetings for my committee. Events themselves, such as Light the Night took up typically anywhere from four to eight hours.
• Debate took an hour every other week
• Science Olympiad took an hour every other week as well.
• I’m In the midst of starting a nonprofit, which aims to make money in order to build schools in third world countries- which I’m trying to bring to which ever college I attend.
• Did Tae Kwon do from ninth until eleventh grade, reached Brown Belt- won four bronze medals in various tournaments. I did this three-four times a week for 6-8 hours in total.
• Coxed during the 2008 summer for Thompson Boat Center for a little over 30 hours a week. I was the second eight coxswain behind a Harvard recruited coxswain. I was involved in seven different 2,000 meter races at Club Nationals. All my boats went passed their heats in to semis where my lightweight four made it into the finals.
• Coxed for high school- present. I was awarded the third varsity eight- seeing as I was a novice- along with a novice four. At our championship race, my third eight made it past the semis and in to finals: where we got second to last. My novice four also made it past their semi at the Ted Phoenix Championship race where they got second. But sadly got last in the final. At the end of the year I got a Varsity Letter-only after a year of coxing. This took up around 26 hours a week during the racing season (including regattas).
• Currently, I am Coxing for Fairfax County Juniors where I’ve been named the first eight coxswain, and will be participating at the Head of the Charles, Occoquan Challenge, etc. It takes about 16 hours a week not including race days.
• Men’s Choir- I participated in concerts such as the Disney Show, and Winter Concert.
• 2006-2007 Science Fair Verbal Recognition (school)
