Why have the Philidelphia Eagles Not been able to get D.Mcnabb a Premiere Receiver in all his time in Phillie?
Aside from Owens, and we know how that worked out… but Why have they just not been able to get Donovan a A+ Receiver to Throw to? whether in a Trade, or the Draft or Freeagency… is there a reason why? Especially when you consider Andy Reid is an Offensive Coach, i don’t get it.
I checked, in the time since Donovan has been a Eagle…Burress, Mussein Muhamed (when he was good), Chris Chambers, Joey Galloway (when he was good), Terry Glenn (when he was good), Lee Evens, Santana Moss, Roy Williams, and others, were all avaiable in trades or free agency… and Only Owens was ever acquired… now, Not all are A+ receivers, but all are better than what the Eagles have now, aside from Desean JAckson.
Edit:
#1 stern super fan?
Im a Ginats fan, not a Eagles fan…its just a question i always wonder about.. the one year they had a 1 receiver, they got to SB.
Robert C…you must really have been watching a different team. The Eagles like to run?
Anywhoo…remember that time when Andy Reid was still coaching in Green Bay, and Sterling Sharpe went down? Brett Frave spread the ball around to all the remaining receivers and they still had a successful season. Andy Reid is stuck in that time. He seems to think that’s the answer to all offensive woes. Now we let big play guys slip through our fingers to rival teams. It’s so frustrating. The proof is in the stats…with a big play guy, we were 13-3 and made the SB. McNabb still has more TD passes to TO than he does to any other receiver…

Who knows?
They tried with TO and it paid off (they got to the SB), but after that, things just fell apart.
But McNabb is good and he doesn’t need the best WR in the game to be successful.

Because management fears with Donovan’s massive ego, that if he’s at all ever overshadowed by his WR (as he was with T.O.) he calls his mama, and immediately orders her to fire up her blog and a bowl of Campbell’s Chunky.
PS: They’ll trade their picks for Boldin or Edwards.

Andy Reid and the owners do not believe that the team needs a top tier WR to win the division or go deep in the playoffs. I feel bad for McNabb and Westbrook for having to literally carry the team to victory.

Maybe the problem isn’t with his receivers its with him…maybe Philly should give his receivers a better QB…?

In this league, premiere receivers don’t grow on trees. Even among your list, how many of them are good, consistent WR’s? Buress is talented, but he was very unproven when leaving Pit, and you see how he’s turning out in New York now. Muhammed was too old, and in my opinion, not worth the money. Chambers is far from being an elite WR, and I’d rather have gone without Galloway and Glenn as well for various reasons. Santana Moss is pretty overrated and demands too much money. In all honestly, I’d rather have Donte Stallworth (who was very successful with the Eagles) than most of the aforementioned guys. Roy Williams was one of the most lopsided deals (in favor of the Lions) I have seen in awhile. And Lee Evans, although talented, is fairly inconsistent – I don’t consider him to be a legitimate #1 target. He’s best suited to be complimentary.
Reid preaches a system that promotes spreading the ball around, and creative multiple WR sets. He schemes and gameplans to attack weaknesses of defenses by creating surprising mismatches. Obviously, having a great WR can make life much easier for a QB, but McNabb is good enough, and Reid is a good enough gameplanner that the Eagles have found plenty of success by using guys who aren’t any better than 2nd or 3rd receivers (if even that!). Donovan McNabb is a perfect fit for this type of system as he spreads the ball around, and will typically find the guy who is beating the defense on that particular day.
Now factor in that the Eagles are one of the most frugal teams in the league, and they rarely will sign aging players. Most of those receivers you mentioned were either aging or not entirely proven. The cap-concious Eagles wouldn’t ever risk overpaying for a WR, which is a position Reid has shown he can be successful without. They also tend to be very big tightwads when it comes to dealing picks – unless they’re dealing for more picks or to move up in the draft, they rarely give up early draft picks, which most teams want when giving up a receiver. Even think about TO’s signing – the Eagles got one of the top 3 WR’s in the league for a bargain price. If TO wasn’t an idiot, he never would have been kicked out of San Fran, and if he did end up leaving there, the Eagles never would have shelled out the money for him.
It’s kind of a perfect storm of fiscal frugalty, unwillingness to take risks, the players available, and Reid believing he can get similar production for less money. It’s easy to understand McNabb’s frustration with the lack of a true #1 as his receivers typically lead the league (or are very near the top) in drops, and even are caught running the wrong routes a few times a game. I think if they’re going to make a move on a WR via a blockbuster trade, this is the year they do it.

Because Andy Reid likes to run the ball. Also, he apparently thinks so highly of McNabb, that he believes McNabb can make do with 3rd rate receivers.
I was shocked last year when the Eagles actually drafted Desean Jackson. Thought he would make a huge impact, but has not yet.
You do have to admit that McNabb and Westbrook can carry the team…but wouldn’t it be a lot easier if they had a great number 1 WR.

First of all, Kevin Curtis is a bonafide starter at WR in the NFL. Desean Jackson is on the right path to become a special player in this league — A returner and a speedy deep threat that can catch the ball.
Also, you cut Stallworth…If I remember right. A 2nd tier reciever with great speed. The Eagles are about drafting their talent and keeping the check book as closed as they can for as long as possible.
I read a side report on the Kansas City Star website about having 1 or 2 top tier wide recievers. It made the point, through pure statistical facts, that having 1 top tier WR got you into the 45-59% winning range on avg. — But, having 2 top tier recievers put their teams in the 60% (+) range, in terms of winning.
Steelers — 2 top tier WR’s
Giants — 2 (until today… Plaxico is out!)
Colts — 2
Patriots — 2
Cowboy’s — 2
Jet’s — 2
Chargers — 1.5 (maybe 2)
You get the idea… and maybe you’ll get Tony Gonzalez as draft day comes closer and the chiefs look for a 2nd round choice after giving up theirs for Matt Cassel.

I have to agree with Jim. Premiere Wide Receivers dont just grow on trees. McNabb threw for more yards than he did ever in his career last year. McNabb has fared well with his receivers and that is not he Number 1 Priority right now. DeSean Jackson going to turn out to be a great receiver and Avant will also. Curtis will be back healthy and will crack 1,000 yards like he did 2 years ago. They might pick one up in the draft like Heyward-Bey or Barden but this year wasnt a great year for Wide Receivers. Houshmanzadeh, Holt, arent Premier wide Receivers. I am not mad at the way the Front Office has done

I really don’t understand it, either. Desean Jackson showed flashes last season; but it’s not coincidence the only season McNabb made it to the Super Bowl was the year T.O. was there.
Look at it this way, Kim. It benefits our teams. LOL.
