Your best bet is to buy a complete bike from a reputable company. Most of the time you will get a better deal parts wise with a complete. If you really get into BMX you can upgrade you bike one part at a time. By doing that you will have your own custom bike without paying a ton of money at once. Dans comp is a good site to look at and compare different companies, and you defiantly want to have the right size frame. For frame material you will want chromoly, because aluminum can't take as much stress. Aluminum bikes are race bikes in the BMX world.
References :
you might want to cut it at 350$.. look i highly recomend you look at Kink bikes. They are a very good company with good quality products that would fit ur needs. All their bikes have three piece cranks, i wouldnt just worry bout cranks and weight, also look at frame size. depending on how tall and heavy you are 5'11 would be ok with a 2.75 frame, sometimes even bigger. KINK will have the best deal and quality. USE danscomp.com for all your bmx stuff reliable and good prices
References :
personal experience with many bikes
