I have an oryg gyro rig on my BMX bike and I was wondering how to uninstall it. Also can you include any details, such as will i need a new cassette/headset or anything?
You will not need to purchase any new parts to take off your Gyro, but you may need to purchase some spacers (plastic rings that fit over your forks steerer tube). These will fill the space that your Gyro used on your steerer tube. They only cost a dollar each, or so, and come in many sizes.
You will need to remove the cables from the gyro, upper and lower. (very small allan key required) You may aswel remove the gyro tabs on the head tube, too, if they are removeable. (small allan key required there, too)
Then loosen the stem and slide the bars off the bike, with stem attached. Slide the gyro off, and then replace it with your spacers, and put the stem back on.
Now is the tricky part. Look into you stem hole. You need to have no more than around 5mm gap between the top of the steerer tube and the top of the stem hole. This will be enough room to allow your compression bolt to clamp tight into your forks, without ‘bottoming out’ before it locks your whole front-end in. If there isn’t 5mm, add or remove spacers as required. Spacers come in all different widths, so get a lot of smaller ones, rather than a couple of bigger ones.
That’s it..!! Pretty simple, really. I’m sure you won’t have a problem doing it yourself. Email me if you have any problems.
